AK Online Film Club #12: Throne of Blood

Throne of BloodThrone of Blood is the April movie for our online film club. It is also the 12th movie on our list, completing the first year of discussion!

As Coco already noted, Throne of Blood is perhaps one of Kurosawa’s most popular movies. Based on William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, it transports the story of the scheming warrior king into medieval Japan.

As usual, information about DVD releases can be found in the DVD section, while the regular Kurosawa bibliography can come in handy for background reading. Etext copies of Shakespere’s Macbeth can be found around the web — the one I usually check is Open Source Shakespeare, as it gives you excellent search options.

There is also a lot of discussion that you can find about with a simple Google search. A Shakespeare mailing list that I follow, shaksper, has also accumulated some relevant discussion over the past two decades.

Have a good trip.

If by chance you happen to be around Shibuya,Tokyo on Friday or Saturday night could you report if there are any street food vendors?
I’ve heard they have been banned, but hadn’t any confirmation. Trying to track down someone, but hadn’t any success, to what I assume is due the ban relocating this person.
These specfic vendors sell meat cooked on a open flame, and hang out on the avenue to the far left of the Shibuya 109 building, about 1 blocks from the street entrance Shibuya 109 is a large silver/white building practically straight head from the JR station hachiko exit, hard to miss.

Of course, dont go out of your way. Just been trying to get some info for months.

Jeremy,

thank you. I’m not planning to go to Tokyo but I’ll look out for the 109 meat vendors – I am really curious to know where does this interest come from…

Somethings are best left untold 😉

No, I just lost contact with a meat vendor that was good at getting me the near impossible tickets, reservations, near anything really, an average guy like me just can’t get uphold of.
Relevant to this site, as my insider for getting info, and my ability to attend anything that might happen during the AK100 events.

Knowing if at least vendors still operate in the area would answer a few questions, and narrow the search.

But really isn’t a big deal, just a by-the-way thing. And by the way, if you are in Tokyo, hungry and on a budget, while desiring something better the fast food. The location I mention is a great spot to eat some proper meats, for 500-600 yen, that would cost 2000+yen in a fancy restaurant-assuming the vendors are still there. You’ll know they aren’t there, if you pass the first coke machine down the street, no coke machine-then if you hit a Yamaha instrument dealer, then your way too far and there is nothing of interest further down. Unless you want find illegal African immigrants pushing some African rap CDs-which aren’t too bad for a bunch of NWA and Tupac wannabes. 😛

Occasionally, I’ll watch for a few hours a friend’s 8y/o daughter. The result of boredom, toys, camera and stop motion editing software.

I try to inflict some awesomeness into the movies, such as a gun toting bull, but sadly most of the movies are closer to this:

G2

Personally I think her composition gives a bad area of attention, but credit must go towards time required to scan the shot, and projection of forward motion using frame lead on the left and trailing subject behind main subject-I taught her that 😉
