Ran home video?

Does anyone know what the highest quality currently available DVD release of Ran is? Eng subtitles and with the original aspect ratio.

“Highest quality” here is a bit subjective, I would say. The Criterion DVD and the Optimum release are both good, but have very different transfers that affect the brightness considerably. You can find comparisons on DVD Beaver‘s website.

For the most faithful transfer though, you probably have to go with a Blu-ray release. The 2016 4K restoration by Studio Canal is arguably the definitive release at the moment, as it was done with Masaharu Ueda, one of the original cinematographers. The colours are again fairly different from any of the DVD releases.
