Takeshi Kitano's final film will be inspired by Seven Samurai

Takeshi Kitano’s next and apparently final film, Kubi, is said to be inspired by Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai. The film hasn’t been officially announced yet but it has been talked about in the Japanese media. Variety has an article in English.

Is anyone here familiar with Kitano’s novel that the film will be based on?

Unfortunately, I’m not familiar with the novel, but its an exciting prospect.

With Kitano retiring along with the apparent demise of Ghibli, things aren’t looking so great for Japanese cinema. The only bright spot seems to be that Netflix is putting serious money into some Japanese productions. Let’s hope something good comes from it.
