Rising sons: the radical photography of postwar Japan

The Guardian has a nice little collection of postwar Japanese photography on display at their website. It made me think of Kurosawa and his postwar works.

    Check it out there.

Those are amazing photographs. Perhaps I’m viewing this from a false perspective (and possible ignorance of much modern Japanese art) but I do find it sad that the great burst of creativity post war in Japan was not maintained. I think that in so much of the arts, particularly visual arts, there has been very little of interest coming from Japan in the past few decades compared to that period.
