Former child actor Hiroyuki Kawase, whom we know for Dodesukaden, recently came to the United States for a Japanese sci-fi convention. Ed Godziszewski (co-author of Ishiro Honda: A Life in Film, from Godzilla to Kurosawa) interviewed him about his life and his career as a child actor. Kawase’s sci-fi efforts are, of course, the primary focus of the interview, but he does talk toward the beginning about Dodesukaden: how he was cast, his working relationship with Kurosawa, etc. and also talks (albeit very briefly) about the little-discussed Song of the Horse (1971).
This footage was recorded by an attendee in the audience, so not the best audio quality.
