About Akira Kurosawa News and Information
Akira Kurosawa: News, Information and Discussion, as the admittedly rather unimaginative title already suggests, serves three primary functions: to point visitors to the latest Kurosawa related news articles, to provide some information related to the director and his movies, and to serve as a meeting point and a discussion corner for those interested in Kurosawa’s films and his legacy. We are in no way affiliated with Kurosawa Productions or any other Kurosawa organisation.
This website does not claim to be definitive. For one thing, there is no Akira Kurosawa biography offered here. If you need a short introduction to Kurosawa, I recommend the Wikipedia article about him. Or, for some more in-depth information, I suggest you look at some of the various books written on the subject. For a filmograhy, you could do worse than check the IMDb entry for Kurosawa.
The main focus here is in offering content to those who are already familiar with Akira Kurosawa and his works. This includes for instance the already-mentioned news links (available also as RSS feeds), as well as reviews of various releases of books and DVDs related to Kurosawa.
You are free to comment on the individual pages or news, and are indeed encouraged to do so! The forum requires registration, and is open for any discussion (within reasonable limits, of course).
The icons on the front page and the news, information and discussion sections come from the beautiful Fugue Icon pack, designed by Yusuke Kamiyamane.
About the webmaster
My name is Vili Maunula, and I have been an ardent fan of Kurosawa’s works for most of my life. As I find it rather difficult to sum up myself in a single paragraph, I would ask you to head to my personal website, Vertebrate Silence. Only if you are interested, of course.
If you wish to contact me, either leave a comment to any of the posts or pages on this site, or alternatively send an email to the following address: vili.maunula[at]gmail.com. (Replace “[at]” with “@” — this is to prevent spammers harvesting my email address.)
