I should have been paying attention – it’s on right now in my local cinema (Lighthouse, Dublin). One showing a day for a week.

Nothing close to me, but it was my introduction to Kurosawa. It was this review that a teenager saw that caught my interest.

Is this the same 4k restoration that BFI London showed 7-8 (?) years ago, or a new one?

There is a nice review of Ran by Michael Billington in the Guardian, from the perspective of a theatre critic. I always find it interesting that theatre people seem rate Kurosawa’s Shakespeare adaptions even higher than film critics.

    Hello everyone,

As a longtime admirer of Akira Kurosawa, I would like to share with you a short 15-minute English version of my documentary project,
    “Life Work of Akira Kurosawa.”

    🎥 Watch here: https://youtu.be/OyNihafzKnQ?si=PgNRmDfE0ihQfGuv

This documentary offers a behind-the-scenes perspective on Kurosawa’s creative life and philosophy, based on rare interviews, production insights, and reflections on how his works have guided many of us through the challenges of life.
It is a personal tribute to the profound impact Kurosawa has had not only on cinema, but also on the way we understand humanity.

I would be very happy to hear your thoughts or impressions.

    Thank you for watching,
    Mitsuhiko Kawamura

Finally got to see it (it’s only shown in the afternoons in my local cinema). Just wow. Yes, I’ve seen it several times before, but not in the cinema, not with this quality of print. A lot of things that puzzled me about the film are much clearer now, not least because I hadn’t realised how murky some of the dvd versions I’ve seen are. In particular, the scenes with Sue have far greater clarity. I hadn’t realised just how perfect so much of the framing is – especially in that scene where Kaede is presented with the stone foxes head.
