article on translating AK’s films

Hello. Sorry if this has been covered. I found this article by Linda Hoagland, who has done a lot of the translation/subtitling for Criterion’s releases. She discusses her approach to translating the scripts into English.

Thanks. A shortened version of this appears in the booklet accompanying the Throne of Blood Criterion release. It also has an article on the same topic by Donald Richie.

Maybe I need to start reading my booklets more often. I found the article very interesting.

. . . and maybe I need to read them more closely. She mentions that she translated “I Live in Fear” which is yet to be released by Criterion. I hope it is coming soon.

Really quite interesting. She certainly has translated a lot of great filmmaker’s works beyond AK!

Also seeing that shot from Stray Dog reminded me how great that film is.
