4K version of Ikiru screened widely in Japan

Ikiru
The new 4K restoration of Akira Kurosawa’s Ikiru is currently being shown in cinemas across Japan. The first set of theatres is already screening the film until September 23, after which another group of theatres will be showing it until October 7.

A list of participating theatres can be found on this website (in Japanese).

As reported earlier, the restoration was done by Toho Studios, working from original master copies. The film was cleaned up frame by frame, with special attention paid also to the soundtrack in order to make the dialogue crispier than in previous prints.

Together with Ikiru, also Seven Samurai was similarly restored. It will arrive to Japanese cinemas in October. Participating theatres can be found here (in Japanese).

Anyone here going?
