Seventh Samurai from the Weinsteins?

While trying to uncover more information about Robert Redford‘s rumoured Against All Enemies project, I stumbled upon yet another bit of information about the rumoured Seven Samurai remake that the Weinstein Co. is allegedly working on. (Earlier reports can be found for example here, here, here, and here.)

This time around, the information comes from ComingSoon.net, who have got hold of a list that is being circulated in Hollywood, detailing projects that are given priority before next year’s Writers Guild, Directors Guild and Screen Actors Guild strike. One item on the list is “Seventh Samurai”, a Weinstein Company film. The ComingSoon.net article comments:

“Directors Justin Chadwick and Wayne Kramer are listed as possibles for something called Seventh Samurai from the Weinstein Company. Could this be the rumored remake of Akira Kurosawa’s classic Seven Samurai?”

Wayne Kramer is known for The Cooler and Running Scared, and is currently putting finishing touches on Crossing Over, which stars Harrison Ford, Sean Penn and Ashley Judd.

Justin Chadwick is a less known director for me, having so far mainly worked for television. March 2008 will, however, see the release of his debut film The Other Boleyn Girl, starring Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson, Eric Bana and Kristin Scott Thomas.

As always, I must stress that these are just rumours of a project that to the best of my knowledge has not yet been green-lighted. So, anything may (or indeed may not) happen.
