NewsArchive.org’s Sanshiro Sugata
The Internet Archive has added Sanshiro Sugata to their collection. Just like earlier on with Rashomon, the film is now downloadable in a few different formats, or can be watched in a browser.
I have not yet had the time to check the quality of their release.
There are clear amounts of dirt and scratches, thought the center of the frame is generally quite clean. There is also considerable flicker in some scenes, but the print has decent brightness, sharpness and contrast, seemingly as good or better then the VHS versions when watching the larger MPEG4 file.
I have not tested the DIVX file as I don’t currently have that program loaded on my comp.
On first glance the aspect ratio appears to be the correct 1.37:1
